What is counted

Most users will find that most of the Internet traffic which they generate, either through file downloads or WWW browsing and so on, will be charged to their quota. This includes:

  • World Wide Web browsing and downloads,

  • FTP file transfers,

  • TELNET, SSH or other connections,

  • IRC, instant messaging or other forms of chat,

  • Connections originating from a host owned by you (eg NT or self-admin machine),

  • Connections originating from your wireless host,

  • Other miscellaneous connections.

Please keep in mind, though, that all traffic from sites within the university itself is free.

Please see What is not counted for information about what is specifically not charged to your quota.
