How your quota is calculated |
Daily and session Internet quotas are calculated as follows:
- School staff, including academics, have a session quota which is equal
to 5000 megabytes (5 GB). Their daily quota is 20% of their session quota
except for lecturers and members of CSG, for whom daily quota is half their
session quota. SS can allocate more ipquota upon request.
- Post-graduate research students have a session quota which is equal
to 1000 megabytes (1 GB), plus an additional 170 megabytes, plus 30 megabytes
per COMP or SENG class (except those listed below) in which they are
enrolled. Their daily quota is 20% of their session quota. SS can allocate
more ipquota upon request of the student's supervisor.
- Post-graduate coursework and undergraduate students have a session
quota which is equal to 100 megabytes plus 30 megabytes per COMP or SENG
class (except those listed below) in which they are enrolled. Their daily
quota is 20% of their session quota. Additional ipquota has to be purchased
from the Helpdesk.
- Undergraduates in COMP3421 get an additional 100Mb.
- Undergraduates in any of {COMP,SENG}{4910,4911,4912,4913,4914} get an
additional 200Mb.
- Lab supervisors get an additional 100Mb.
- Tutors also get an additional 100Mb.
- Half the session quota is made available at session start; the rest is
allocated at the HECS census date, about 4 weeks after session starts. This is
to prevent over-excited people blowing all their ipquota straight away (it
has happened!).
